QUESTIONS ABOUT ME, TheSportsTutor
What can you share about your background? What is your experience working with children?
I have experience working with children in both sports and academic settings. I respect kids of all ages, I take them seriously, and I’m genuinely interested in what they have to say. Because of this, kids tend to be interested in what I have to say. And unlike many adults, I remember what it was like to be a kid and I bring that empathy into every conversation.
Tell me about your athletic background. Were you ever a big-time athlete?
Alas, my incredible love for sports was never matched by a similar level of on-field achievement. I was an average athlete who was, and still is, a pretty good recreational player. I once had a brief but very successful stint as an umpire, which was also a tremendously valuable experience through which I learned a lot about life’s non-sports related matters.
Which sports are your specialty? Does it matter if I play a niche or obscure sport?
My sport of choice has always been baseball/softball, which I’ve followed as a fan and have also personally played for many years. I still play some volleyball and when I was younger I played a lot of soccer and recreational basketball. I also have personal experience with tennis, golf, badminton, hockey, football, judo, gymnastics, and other sports, all to varying degrees of expertise and success, and I enjoyed them all. That said, many of the lessons I learned and wish to pass on as TheSportsTutor are applicable across multiple sports.
